DYE + DWR
Cotton, Viscose, and certain synthetics, such as polyester, polyamide and acrylics can be continuously dyed and finished with DWR using the Emerald Finishing Technology. The process takes 10 - 15 min and is waterless because it does not require dye vats, rinsing, neutralization or reduction cleaning, yet is colorfast and vibrant in color. Although the dye chemistry is water-based and uses commercially-available dyes, it generates no water effluent and the product meets or exceeds most industry standards.
DYE + DWR yields a product that has superior water repellency because the dye process is compatible with the DWR process and is done simultaneously. Dyeing of cotton not only reduces process time by hours, but also provides a product that routinely achieves a spray rating of 90 or 100 even after 30 wash/dry cycles and which achieves a colorfastness rating of 4 or 5.
Two steps are involved: 1) coating - can be done using padding, spray or a kiss roller, followed by 2) tenter frame curing. No subsequent cleaning or rinsing steps are needed. This process uses only a tiny fraction (1-5%) of the water often used for dyeing. Because of this, we call it "waterless". It is also climate-friendly because there is no need for heating large vats of water in dye vessels or heat thousands of kilograms of stainless steel pods.
This process technology is only available through Emerald Finishing LLC or its partner mills.
